Want to drive a Capital Pedicab? Here’s a few things to do to get the process started.
- Go to the Texas D.P.S. documentation office at 108 Denson and get your criminal history, be sure to ask for a certified criminal history. As of November 2nd, 09, all driving records will only be issued online. Go to www.texasonline.state.tx.us and get your driving record there. Be sure to get Certified List of All Accidents and Violations in Record (Type 3A).These documents must be presented to the City of Austin within 30 days of being issued from the D.P.S., otherwise they become invalid.
- When you have your records, contact Capital Pedicab and make an appointment to meet with one of the managers to fill out an application. Bring your documents to that meeting.
- After that you will go to the City of Austin Ground Transportation office at 1111 Rio Grande with your documents and the signed application and take the City of Austin pedicab chauffeur license test. You will receive your license that day and you are ready to start pedicabbing.
- Applicants must have a vaild Texas driver’s license and be at least 18 years of age.
- Applicats who are documented as living in states other than Texas during the past 3 years will also have to obtain a certified driving record and certified crimimal history from those states as well.
- Applicants with a moving violation on thier driving record within the past 3 years are required to take defensive driving in order to qualify for a chauffeurs permit.
